LUNCH TALKfrom WTAE: PennDOT says it's ready for the coming winter — but it's looking to hire more than 600 seasonal employees. The additional hires would supplement its full-time staff of workers on the road, plowing snow and spreading salt, and others who operate and maintain equipment. "We have 4,700 employees that we engage with winter. And, yes, it has been a challenge to get plow truck drivers and diesel mechanics, specifically. That's why we're saying we're recruiting and we'd certainly love to get them in and join our team. It really reduces the strain of our operators when you look at a storm event (and) we're trying to hit 24-hour coverage," said Melissa Batula, PennDOT acting executive deputy secretary. Information on those seasonal jobs is available at employment.pa.gov. As a new TikTok challenge is leading students to strike school teachers, one local district is sending a message that participation in this trend will lead to harsh penalties. Steel Valley leaders addressed the ‘Smack a Staff Member’ challenge that is making waves on TikTok, where students are encouraged to strike a school staff member while being recorded on video. In a letter sent to parents and families, district Superintendent Edward Wehrer made it clear that any participation in this challenge at Steel Valley will not be tolerated. TODAY'S QUOTEWe’ve had a lot of personal conversations that should remain that way and are very private.
Tom Brady, when asked on what was said during a private meeting with former coach, Bill Bellichick, after the Buccaneers defeated the Patriots, 19-17.
From Karen Guregian, Boston Herald: “We got a personal relationship, you know, for 20-plus years. He drafted me here. We’ve had a lot of personal conversations that should remain that way and are very private,” he said. “And I would say so much is made of our relationship. You know, as I said earlier this week, from a player’s standpoint you just expect the coach to give you everything he’s got, and I’m sure as a player that’s what he was hoping from me. “But nothing is really accurate that I ever see,” Brady went on. “It’s all kind of – definitely doesn’t come from my personal feelings or beliefs. I got a lot of respect for him as a coach and obviously a lot of respect for this organization and all the different people here that try to make it successful.” TODAY'S NUMBER: 107,000
