They were led by freshman Jane Huss for the 9th time this season. Jane finished in 15th out of a field of 185 girls, running 21:31 to qualify for the PIAA State Championships. This week's pod episode is a special look at the career of Mr. McCleary. After being a staple of the Derry Area community for more than 30 years, Mr. McCleary is retiring. Cydney sits down with him to discuss everything from his start all the way until the last bell of his last day. This is an episode that you don't want to miss. Enjoy.
TODAY'S QUOTEI don't usually say I go to work. I go to school.
Said Mr. McCleary in a 2013 feature article in the Trib after receiving receiving the American Red Cross of Southwestern Pennsylvania's Educator Hero Award.
TODAY'S NUMBER: 35

By Mr. Curcio / Station Advisor Posted 7:11 AM ET 1. Chic-Fil-A Leader Academy The Chick-Fil-A Leader Academy will meet this Thursday from 9:19-11:19 in the auxiliary gym. 2. Golf Bags All golf bags are to be returned no later than this Friday, October 29. Please place your name on your bag with either a tag or tape. 3. Basketball Meeting There will be a meeting for all those who plan on playing boys' basketball this Friday during homeroom on the audion. LUNCH TALKWhy Finances Are Important? By Rebecca Huss I’m going to ask you a series of questions. Depending on how many you can answer confidently, the content of this article will speak for itself. How do I cash this paycheck? Where does this go when I cash it? How do I create a bank account? What are the types of bank accounts available? The most important thing to know about living in this world is finances. Any job available requires you to know financial information. You don’t have to be an accountant or banker to have to know finance. The answers to these questions are important to know for everyday adult life. However, most teenagers aren’t taught the answers to these questions in high school. That means that when high school students graduate and get hired, they are clueless and stressed about what to do and how to do it when it comes to finance. READ MORE TODAY'S QUOTEI actually got a robocall that said my Amazon account had been hacked. Timothy Strother, a Pittsburgh resident, was scammed by a phone call in September. He was instructed to download the AnyDesk app and give the person on the phone remote access to his phone. Before he knew it, his accounts were hacked. Strother said he lost more than $4,000 and he is now working with his bank and credit cards, in an effort to get some of the money back. Bottom Line: Don't ever give anyone remote access to your computer unless it's someone you completely trust... not some guy who randomly calls you. TODAY'S NUMBER: 12 millionThat's about how many deaths across the world are associated with environmental risk factors every year, according to a Pan American Health Organization assistant director. This includes causes like cardiovascular and respiratory diseases due to high temperatures and pollution, consequences from wildfires and droughts, and the health risks associated with poor air quality. Happy Thursday! AND FINALLY...To infinity...

LUNCH TALK(WTAE) - Vaccine advisers to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration voted 17-0 with one abstention Tuesday to recommend emergency use authorization of Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine in children ages 5 to 11. Members of the FDA's Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee agreed the benefits of vaccinating younger children appeared to outweigh the risks, but some members appeared troubled about voting to vaccinate a large population of younger children based on studies of a few thousand. TODAY'S QUOTERight now, Mark [Zuckerberg] is unaccountable. Says Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen. Most people might think journalists reporting revelations about one of the world’s most powerful companies was par for the course. Zuckerberg, however, seems to think it’s some sort of vast conspiracy. TODAY'S NUMBER: 16(CNN) - Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Charlie Morton will miss the rest of the World Series after leaving Game 1 with a fractured bone in his leg, according to his team. Morton left the game in the bottom of the third inning after throwing 44 pitches in Houston. The Braves were leading 5-0 when Morton struck out Astros leadoff hitter Jose Altuve with a curve. On his delivery, Morton almost went to the ground and came up with a limp; however, he threw 16 more pitches on his broken leg. Despite the setback, the Braves went on to win the game 6-2. Volleyball Falls to BrentwoodThe girls' volleyball team lost to Brentwood last evening by a score of 3-1. LUNCH TALK(CNN) - A series of news stories dubbed "The Facebook Papers" -- based on thousands of internal company documents -- reveals how the platform has been used to sow political discord and extremism across the world, facilitate human trafficking, push hate speech and misinformation, and organize events like the January 6 insurrection. The documents also reveal that Facebook leaders sometimes knew to some extent the damage being caused by users. Dislike. TODAY'S QUOTEHe should've held it to get as much leverage as possible. Tom Brady said to Peyton Manning last night, talking about the 600th TD ball that a fan just gave up. Brady said he was going to reimburse him with Bitcoin worth just shy of $63,000, PLUS "The Athletic's Greg Auman reports that the Bucs also pledged to give Kennedy $1,000 in credit at the team store, two autographed Brady jerseys, a Brady helmet, an autographed Evans jersey, Evans' game-worn cleats and two season tickets for the rest of this season and next." The fan reported wanted a round of golf with the GOAT. Looks like he will be playing the long game anyway. TODAY'S NUMBER: $250(CNN) - An art collective purchased an original Andy Warhol drawing for $20,000 and is selling it to one lucky buyer for just $250. But there's a catch: The artwork is being offered alongside 999 high-quality forgeries -- and even their creators can't tell them apart. Think Mr. Sabo could spot the real one? LUNCH TALKNumbers Games by Abigail Doperak / Senior Sports connect the world. It is a common tie we all share. The rush of competition. The wave of adrenaline. The need to win. For most, sports is used as an outlet to release any stress or tension. It is a safe spot. Yet, that does not stay true for all ages. This is why we see a dramatic decrease in the number of high school sport participants. Derry Area High School is fortunate to be able to provide students with fifteen total sport options throughout the year, but is this too many for the number of athletes we actually have? Participation in sports is a staple for an elementary school student. Whether it be soccer, teeball, or ballet, sports dominate the realm of after school activity. The Derry Area School District is no exception. READ MORE TODAY'S QUOTE"I Wish She Was My Wife" James Michael Tyler, best known as the coffee shop manager Gunther on the hit show "Friends," died peacefully at his home on Sunday, according to his representative Toni Benson. He was 59. from ScreenRant: Gunther was in love with Rachel throughout the entire series and it provided so many moments of fantastic comedy. One of the best comes when his inner dialogue is spoken out loud for the audience to hear as he delivers coffee to the group. Firstly, he questions what she sees in Ross, and then smells Rachel's hair, thinking, "I love Rachel. I wish she was my wife." It's a hilarious moment as it's the first time he openly admits this, even if it's in his own head. TODAY'S NUMBER: 103On a cold and rainy night that was dedicated to the seniors, freshman Revoir led the Trojans with 103 rushing yards on nine attempts, boosted by a 42-yard scramble up the middle after scooping up a loose ball. Even though the Trojans lost to Burrell, 43-13, the future surely is bright for the blue and gold. AND FINALLY...No Sid? No Malkin? No Problem.
