Spectator UpdateThe Derry Area School District Board of Directors has approved new spectator guidelines and increased the total number of individuals permitted at home varsity football games and home volleyball matches. Golf ResultsBethany Dixon led all scorers with a 43, and Gianna Copelli was right behind with a 44 as the Lady Trojan Golf Team got its first victory of the season defeating Southmoreland 205-209. A Young team, with Copelli as the lone senior has been improving from match to match and their hard work finally led to a check in the win column. Freshman Allie Chamberlin fired a 57.The Derry Area Trojans defeated Geibel Catholic 200-239 at Pleasant Valley Golf Club and sit at the top of WPIAL Section 2 AA at 10-1. Ryan Bushey and Hunter Jurica fired a pair of 38s while Ashton Beighley was only one stroke behind his teammates at 39. Rounding out the scoring on the day, Antonio Hauser and William Hugus with 41 and 44 respectively. Ryan is the first Trojan men’s golfer to win three section titles in his four year career. He has also become the player to have the most team wins in the history of Derry golf. Congratulations to Ryan! 3. Doctors wrote that he had "a poor diet, consisting primarily of several packages of candy daily," and that three weeks before, he switched from eating fruit-flavored soft candy to licorice candy, which contained glycyrrhizic acid. People 40 or older should be especially vigilant about their black licorice consumption: even 2 ounces per day, over a two-week period, could cause irregular heart rhythm and may require hospitalization, the FDA cautions.
