Applications are due no later than October 7. 2. Section ChampsYesterday’s match up between the Derry Area Trojans and the Mt. Pleasant Area Vikings was a highly anticipated match up between two teams that have become rivals and it didn't disappoint. For Derry it meant holding on to the top spot in WPIAL Section 2 AA, with a record of 9-1 with two matches remaining. Derry was led by Hunter Jurica's 38, and Ashton Beighley was one off the pace at 39. Antonio Hauser carded a 40, Bryce Baum a 41, and Ryan Bushey a 42. The win gives the Trojans a lock on a second consecutive section title, the third in four years. 3. XC ResultsThe Derry Area Boys Cross Country team secured its first section win of the season over Penn Trafford 21-36, while falling to Norwin 49-15. The boys were paced by sophomore Charlie Banks in his first cross country race ever, running 18:38. The following boys also competed, all setting season bests: Jake Watson 20:19, Blake Cecchini 20:23, Morgan Sobota 21:16, Tristan Seger 22:20, Jacob Short 22:32. The girls team lost in a close one to Penn Trafford 31-24 and to Norwin 50-15. The girls were paced by Junior Emma Huber in a huge lifetime best of 23:50. Also competing, all setting season bests were Leah Perry 25:12, Emilee Steffey 25:19, Nicole Enos 25:19, Tessa Hayes set a freshman record in 26:31, Taylor Myers 30:00, Abbey Bolen 38:44. LUNCH TALKFrom CNN: Protests erupted around the nation after yesterday's news that none of the three officers involved in Breonna Taylor's death would be charged with her killing. In a long-awaited decision, a grand jury indicted a former police officer on wanton endangerment charges for his actions the night the 26-year-old was killed. The charge applies to the risk put on Taylor's neighbors during the police raid on her home but does not hold the officer responsible for her death.
