Bethany Dixon led the Lady Trojans with a 53. The Derry Area Varsity Golf Team picked up its 5th straight win of the season, with a 190-285 performance against Geibel Catholic at Pleasant Valley Golf Club. Hunter Jurica was the over-all low medalist firing an even par 35, while fellow junior Antonio Hauser was one off the pace with a one over par 36. Ashton Beighley (junior) and Jonathan Hugus (senior) came in at 39, and Nick Thomas (senior) fired a 41 as DA swept the Gators. 2. Soccer This WeekendDerry Area engaged Dubious on the second and final day of the multi-school tournament as part of the preparation for the 2021/2022 varsity boys soccer season. Derry Area put up a more spirited performance in this game compared to the first game against the home team, Indiana despite the fact that Derry Area entered this game with just two substitutes on a rather warm afternoon. In this game Derry made a number of incursions into the opponents half, a sharp improvement in their attacking lineup. Despite, the desire to find the next, it was Dubois that came up with three goals in quick succession deep into the first half of the game before Derry Area could do any damage. The second half resumed with both sides trying to dominate and again it was Dubois that appeared to have the upper-hand and came up with four additional goals. Derry pulled one back through midfielder Zach Cramer with a beautiful volley that by all standards, was the goal of the game. This goal offered Derry Area some rejuvenation to press harder but time was not on their side and ended up losing by 7 to 1 in favor of the Dubois. This statistic represents an improvement in Derry Area’s performance in the friendly tournament despite the loss. They hope to address some of their technical deficiencies as quickly as possible as they head into the first game of the season at Greensburg Central Catholic on Tuesday, 07 September, 2021. 3. TODAY'S QUOTEThose people are not me. "Many Muslims in the United States point to September 11, 2001 as the day their relationship with the country changed. Islamophobia had always existed, but the terrorist attacks in New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia seemingly made it worse -- much worse. Muslims of all stripes -- citizens, immigrants and refugees -- faced backlash. Many were ostracized and harassed, some physically assaulted and even killed. Charged rhetoric, successive wars and attacks further inflamed the situation. Feeling condemned for crimes they didn't commit, some Muslims changed their names and clothing to conceal their identities, while others clung even tighter to their faith. A few became outspoken advocates for the community." As CNN reports, here are their stories.
