If not, you will not have a senior quote in the yearbook. 3. Girls' Basketball Takes Over First PlaceThe Lady Trojan Basketball Team defeated Deer Lakes 47-40. It was a great atmosphere in the gym with the pep band doing an outstanding job and the Trojan student section was absolutely awesome! Kamryn Kelly had 15 points and 11 rebounds. Tiana Moracco also hit 15 points. It was a total team effort with some solid defense unselfish play. The girls are now 8-4 overall and in first place in the section with a record of 5-1. LUNCH TALKAs posted by Kevin Liberoni of the Latrobe Bulletin: Senior Bethany Allen became the first Trojan female varsity wrestler to start a home match in school history as Derry Area kept its playoff hopes alive after thumping visiting Frazier, 60-24, in a key WPIAL Class AA Section 3-B match Wednesday on Senior Night. Allen represented the Trojans in the 113-pound weight class. Although she lost the match when she suffered a fall with only one second remaining in the second period (3:59), it brought tremendous excitement to her teammates, coaches and fans. Boys Basketball Defeats YoughDerry Area pressured Yough with a complete team effort on both ends of the court posting a 64-49 Section 4A win. Aidan Bushey led the Trojans with 27 points while Tanner Nicely continued to silently score in double and eight Trojan's found the scoring column. Aidan Bushey also collected 7 rebounds as did Sam Jones. Nicely led Derry Area with 3 steals & Ryan Bushey dished out 3 assists.The Trojans are currently tied for 2nd place in the section and will travel to Section leading Knoch this Friday. 2. DA Swimming Loses to UniontownDespite strong efforts by both boys and girls teams Uniontown just had more manpower to defeat the Trojan Swimmers 107-67. Top performers Lauren Angus, Makenzie Eades, Ali Cowan and Ashley Baker we're in top form for the lady Trojans. On the boys side Jake Buhite, Wes Buhite, Jakob Riggle, and Cam Washburn led the way. Brandyn Findish hit his best times of the season for his efforts. Food BankStudents wishing to help out at the Derry Area Food Bank Distribution on Wednesday, January 15, from 8:30 until approximately 11:15 can pick up permission forms from Mrs. Cramer in the Main Office. Students can only attend if they have a signed permission form turned in prior to the trip. Students assisting at the Food Bank will earn 2 ½ hours of community service credit for their work. Musical MaterialsAll students participating in the musical may pick up information & materials in the HS VMR (if you haven’t already done so). Girls' Basketball defeats Steel ValleyThe Lady Trojans traveled to Steel Valley for an important Section 3 contest. The girls out scored SV 43-30 after three quarters then put the game away with a 24 point 4th quarter outburst. Leading scorers were Tiana Moracco(16); Hannah Wedow(15); Danielle Mullen (13); and Kamryn Kelly(10). The Lady Trojans are now 7-4 overall and 4-1 in the section. LUNCH TALKAt the CES consumer electronics show in Las Vegas, Samsung showed off a yellow tennis ball-like robot named Ballie — think BB-8, the lovable droid from "Star Wars" — that acts as your personal assistant. The small robot packs built-in artificial intelligence capabilities, a camera and a mobile interface that intend to help you around the house. Samsung (SSNLF) thinks Ballie will especially resonate with pet owners, entertaining them during the day and allowing users to watch them remotely via the camera. Today's Number: $46 millionIn what lawyers believe to be the largest child wrongful death settlement in American history, Ikea is set to pay $46 million to a California family whose son was killed after a dresser tipped over and fell on him. Eight children are known to have died when Ikea furniture tipped over. The discount furniture chain recalled a total of 29 million chests and dressers, including 8 million MALM dressers, in 2016.
